Will Profhilo help to lift my jowls?

By Dr Rachael Syvret

Profhilo | Dermal Filler

Profhilo is rapidly becoming one of the most requested aesthetic treatments. I am starting to see the shift between people wanting to change the contours of the faces with things such as cheek or jawline with filler, to people now wanting to stay looking like “them” but with natural enhancement and boosting to the skin.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that I think dermal filler is going anywhere any time soon, but I do think the fake look is headed “out” and the natural “tweakment” look is very much “in!”

It is therefore no wonder that for this reason lots of people are turning to Profhilo.

So what is Profhilo? How does it work?

Profhilo is a hyaluronic acid based product that is not cross linked. It works deep in the dermis of the skin to increase our skin cell turnover and production of collagen and elastin.

As a result, it makes our skin appear more firm, glowing, hydrated and supple without volumising and changing the shape of our face, like with dermal filler. Which leads me onto the next question…

Will it lift my jowls?

Whilst Profhilo does have some lifting effect; this is not its predominant role. To get this lifting effect, we do need the strength and “g-prime” that we get from dermal filler. Filler placed into the temples, cheeks, jawline and chin are by far the best way to help to smooth the contours of the jowls, and help to lift lax skin as much as possible.

Often clients will opt for a combination of both filler and Profhilo. In these circumstances; we would do the initial filler work first. Once the filler had settled and fully integrated within the tissues over a two week period, we can then start a treatment regime with Profhilo.

How many Profhilo treatments will I need?

This would normally involve 2-3 treatments, each a month a part, with the results seen a month after the last treatment in the course. This combination of lifting and sculpting from the filler, and firming and hydrating from Profhilo can give the most gorgeous results.

And remember, filler, although sometimes given a bad reputation, used correctly, in the right places, the right amount and the right product can give those natural “tweakments” we are looking for!
