Nose Augmentation

Up until recently, if you felt self-conscious about your nose and wanted to do something about it, surgery was your only option. However, although very effective, surgical rhinoplasty is an extremely invasive procedure that involves a large amount of painful recovery time. Not to mention, the high cost of the procedure and its permanent nature. As a result of these factors, both patients and practitioners have come up with a less drastic alternative. This led to the development of the non-surgical nose augmentation, a procedure that has become popular over the past decade.

How does Nose Augmentation work?

Non-surgical rhinoplasty is a procedure which involves altering or reshaping the nose with injectable fillers. It fills in depressions, smooths out sharp angles and improve the symmetry of the nose. Above all, these injectable fillers can give it a more streamlined appearance without surgery.

How long does a nose augmentation last?

The dermal filler injections usually last 12-18 months. Interestingly, they are all fully biodegradable and will break down gradually over time. Keep in mind, absorption times may differ with individuals. A good indicator is how the area looks and feels, this will give you an idea of when a top-up is needed.

When can I expect to see results?

Anti-wrinkle Botox injections take between 2 days and 2 weeks to take full effect. However, Dermal Fillers take 3-4 days to reach their maximum effect.

Nose Augmentation FAQ’s

Most patients are able to carry on with their daily activities straight after the procedure. Though, heavy glasses of any kind should be avoided for the first two weeks as they can affect the results. Your practitioner will provide aftercare advice to minimise the risk and promote a speedy recovery. Most people will notice an immediate improvement in their appearance. On the other hand, some will have redness, pin prick marks and possible swelling, which is normal and nothing to worry about. Furthermore, any swelling and bruising may be more apparent the next day but will heal. Make-up should not be worn for 12 hours. Our advice is to avoid alcohol, exercise, sunbathing and extremes of heat or cold for 14 days post treatment.

Side effects and precautions

There are very few reported side effects with these products. Saying that, as with any injections bruising is the most common. This is minimal and can be covered effectively with make up. You must mention to your practitioner if you are taking any blood thinning medications such as, aspirin or warfarin as one would be at higher risk of bruising.  However, this does not mean that we cannot proceed, it just mean we will take extra care to minimise bruising.

Top ups

The maximum effect of the treatment should be seen after two weeks. However, if after this time you are not satisfied with the results, a follow up appointment can be made with your practitioner. Under those circumstances, a free “top-up” injection(s) can be given if needed. Top ups are not normally required with Dermal Filler.

The anti-wrinkle injections are administered using a small, thin needle. To further minimise the discomfort felt, your practitioner will change the needle between each area. Although the treatment is therefore not pain free, it is usually very well tolerated by all clients and most refer to it as being less painful that having their eyebrows waxed for instance. Before Dermal Fillers are injected a topical anaesthetic (numbing) cream is applied to the skin. The Dermal Fillers also contain some local anaesthetic. Both of these things help to minimise the discomfort experienced during the treatment.

There is nothing that you need to do prior to the treatment. However, after the treatment there are a few “do’s and don’ts”.  This will be fully explained to you by your practitioner and a written copy of our aftercare advice will be given to you at your appointment.
