Cheek augmentation treatment

Cheek Augmentation

Cheek augmentation is performed using an injectable dermal filler to temporarily improve the volume of the cheeks. As a result, increasing definition and fullness.

The advantage of treating the cheeks is that it lifts the entire face and reduces naso-labial lines and jowls. Consequently, it reverts the shape of the face to a youthful ‘upside down triangle’.

How does it work?

Dermal filler is slowly injected above the cheek bone. Under some circumstances, we may place further product laterally in the cheek to fully enhance the contour depending on the natural shape of your cheek.

Interestingly, Hyaluronic Acid is a naturally occurring sugar chain molecule found in all skin and soft tissues throughout the body, identical across species.

Furthermore, It attracts and binds water in the skin, providing volume and hydration, but also ‘cushioning’ and supporting collagen and elastin fibres.

How long does it last?

Longevity does vary between products, and between individuals. However, most will last between 6 months and 18 months.

When can I see results?

Anti-wrinkle Botox injections take between 2 days and 2 weeks to take full effect. Dermal Fillers take 3-4 days to reach their maximum effect.

Cheek Augmentation FAQ’s

Your practitioner will provide you with aftercare to minimise risk and promote a speedy recovery from any expected side effects. Nevertheless, most people are able to continue with normal activities with immediate improvement in their appearance. On the other hand, some will have some redness, pin prick marks, possibly swelling. Any swelling and bruising may be more apparent the next day. Make-up should not be worn for 12 hours. You will be advised to avoid alcohol, exercise, sunbathing and extremes of heat or cold for 14 days post treatment.

Risks and precautions

There are very few reported side effects with these products, bruising being the most common as with any injections. Though, this is usually minimal and can be covered effectively with make up. You must mention to your practitioner if you are taking any blood thinning medications ie. aspirin or warfarin as one would be at higher risk of bruising. However, this does not mean that we cannot proceed, it just means we will take extra care.

Top ups

The maximum effect of the anti-wrinkle injections should be seen after two weeks. If after this time, you are not satisfied with the results, a follow up appointment can be made with your practitioner and if needed, a free “top-up” injection(s) can be given. Top ups are not normally required with Dermal Filler.

The anti-wrinkle injections are administered using a small, thin needle. For the purpose of minimising the discomfort felt, your practitioner will change the needle between each area. Although the treatment is therefore not pain free, it is usually very well tolerated by all clients and most refer to it as being less painful that having their eyebrows waxed for instance. Before Dermal Fillers are injected a topical anaesthetic (numbing) cream is applied to the skin. The Dermal Fillers also contain some local anaesthetic. Both of these things help to minimise the discomfort experienced during the treatment.

There is nothing that you need to do prior to the treatment. However, after the treatment there are a few “do’s and don’ts”. For this reason, we will be fully explain and provide a written copy of our aftercare advice which will be given to you at your appointment.
