What is a Brow Lift?

A brow lift is a procedure that lifts eyebrows that have become droopy (we refer to this as a ‘brow ptosis’). Thankfully, some patients will benefit the position of the eyebrows with the use of Botulinum Toxin injections alone. (This is often referred to as a “chemical brow lift”). Sometimes Filler is also used where bone projection has been lost.

How does a brow lift work?

We inject Botulinum Toxin into the muscles between the eyebrows that cause the frown lines. As a result, it enters into the muscle which causes the “laughter lines” at the outer aspects of the eyelids. The injections are very quick and simple to perform. Interestingly, the use of Filler can help to lift the brow where bone projection has been lost.

How long does it last?

Botulinum Toxin injections last about 3-4 months. However, some treatments can last up to half a year, depending on individual response.

When can i expect to see results?

Anti-wrinkle Botox injections take between 2 days and 2 weeks to take full effect. Dermal Fillers take 3-4 days to reach their maximum effect.

Brow Lift FAQ’s

There aren’t any major activity restrictions after your treatment. However, you can return to work or run errands after your injections, but don’t engage in strenuous exercise for 24 hours. We discourage flying for a day after injections and facials discouraged for 2 weeks following treatment. It may take a few hours for the injected toxin to “settle” and take shape, so avoid touching the treated area for a few hours. Don’t lie down for four hours after treatment.

Risks and precautions

All treatments carry a degree of risk. All risks and complications will be discussed with you at consultation and prior to any treatment being agreed. Botulinum Toxin and Hyaluronic acid should be administered by a healthcare professional with specialist training. Side effects include, but are not limited to: Bruising, swelling at injection sites, redness at injection sites, headache or a sensation of ‘tightness’ or ‘heaviness’. Adverse events are uncommon, usually occur within a few days of treatment and are expected to be temporary, usually resolving spontaneously within weeks. Your practitioner will provide aftercare advice designed to minimise risk and promote speedy recovery from any side effects.

Top ups

The maximum effect of the anti-wrinkle injections should be seen after two weeks. If after this time, you are not satisfied with the results, a follow up appointment can be made with your practitioner and if needed, a free “top-up” injection(s) can be given. Top ups are not normally required with Dermal Filler.

The anti-wrinkle injections are administered using a small, thin needle. To further minimise the discomfort felt, your practitioner will change the needle between each area. Although the treatment is therefore not pain free, it is usually very well tolerated by all clients and most refer to it as being less painful that having their eyebrows waxed for instance. Before Dermal Fillers are injected a topical anaesthetic (numbing) cream is applied to the skin. The Dermal Fillers also contain some local anaesthetic. Both of these things help to minimise the discomfort experienced during the treatment.

There is nothing that you need to do prior to the treatment. After the treatment there are a few “do’s and don’ts” – this will be fully explained to you by your practitioner and a written copy of our aftercare advice will be given to you at your appointment.
