How do you carry out fat dissolving injections?
One of the treatments offered by Underlining Beauty, which is becoming more and more popular, is fat dissolving. We do this using a product called Aqualyx®. It’s become a hit with celebrities such as the beautiful Lorna Luxe to help tackle stubborn fat around the double chin area.
Aqualyx® is an injectable product that contains bile acids and salts. In the human body, it is these bile acids and salts that are released by the gall bladder, that help us to digest fatty food intake.
So what does the process of fat dissolving injections actually involve?
The consultation
Aqualyx® can be used in most parts of the body and the double chin area. A consultation and assessment of the area to be treated occurs first.
During this consultation, the practitioner will assess how many vials of Aqualyx® will be needed to cover the area for treatment. The practitioner will also be able to discuss how many repeated treatment they think the patient may need to have effective results. This however, is advice only and not something you have to stick to. At Underlining Beauty we don’t force you into a payment plan for a certain number of treatments. Instead, we let you assess the results of each session and then decide if you want another treatment session.
The product
Each vial of Aqualyx® will cover a 10cm x 10cm area of the body. If that area is only 3cm thick with fat, that client will need far less repeated treatments than somebody, who has for instance, 7cm of fat thickness in that area.
The procedure
Photos will be taken (for the records only – this will not be used on social media unless specific consent given). The area(s) for injection will be marked and the patient will lie down. Depending on the area to be injected, this could be on their front, back or side. Each area is typically injected from two injection points.
A long, thin cannula is then passed through the fatty layer of this area, and thin threads of Aqualyx® are deposited into the tissue. The fat layer in the body has no nervous innervation. This means, that as it is the fat layer that is being targeted, it is usually very well tolerated, as there are no nerve fibres to cause pain.
The effect
Aqualyx® causes an inflammatory reaction to work. As the injections progress, the inflammatory reaction starts to occur and the skin becomes hot, red and swollen. This is great! Because this means it is working! The injections take approximately 5 minutes to carry out in each 10cm x 10cm area.
Post appointment
After the injections have been completed, the patient is advised to wear compression garments on the area that has been treated, if possible, and to drink lots of water to help flush the fat cells out. As the reaction is an inflammatory one, it is important not to take any form of anti-inflammatory medication for the few weeks following treatment, as these will reduce the effects of the treatment. Anti-inflammatory medication is things such as ibuprofen, aspirin, naproxen, diclofenac or steroids.
The results
The results take up to four weeks to have their effect, and the swelling can last for one to two weeks following treatment. After the four weeks, the client can then decide if they wish to have another treatment session.
