Introducing a new treatment…Nucleofill
By Dr Rachael Syvret
The new name on the block! You will start to hear this name more and more as word spreads, it’s even had a mention in Vogue…but what is it? And is it something for you?
So here comes the science bit….Nucleofill is a NOT a filler. Nucleofill is a biological signalling molecule which signals cells to perform certain actions. These actions include the activity of fibroblasts, stimulating the production of collagen and converting maturing fibroblasts into myofibroblasts which have a contractile effect. Nucleofill is also extremely hydrophilic.
So what does all this mean in English?! Nucleofill works in the lower skin levels to increase the production of collagen, helps the skin to have more of a tightening and firming effect and increases hydration to the skin. All in all, causing a lifting and tightening effect…what’s not to love?!
Where is Nucleofill used?
Nucleofill comes in three different strengths and the different product is tailored to the area that’s being injected, and the skin type being treated:
- Nucleofill eyes – it has a product specially tailored for the periocular (eye) area that helps to improve periocular wrinkles, eye bags, dark circles and dehydrated skin.
- Nucleofill face – it can be used anywhere on the face or body that would benefit from firming, hydrating and the reversal of fine lines.
- Nucleofill hair – there is even a product for the hair! This can be used anywhere there is hair loss or hair thinning – the scalp, eyebrows, beard… are just examples.
How many treatments will I need?
Typically multiple treatments are required, spaced 2-3 weeks apart:
- Nucleofill eyes – 2-3 treatments
- Nucleofill skin – 2-3 treatments
- Nucleofill hair – 4-6 treatments
How soon are results seen?
Because Nucelofill works in the lower skin levels, the effects are not seen straight away. The effects are seen 1-2 months following the last treatment. The effects of Nucelofill will last anywhere between 4-12 months. A single maintenance treatment is usually carried out at some point in this time, should the client want to continue to maintain the effects of the product.
What are the side effects and risks?
Because Nucleofill is not a filler and not hyaluronic acid based, the risks and side effects are much lower. There have been no reported complications of occlusions, only some stinging whilst the product is placed, and some mild swelling for approximately 24 hours following treatment. Most people tolerate the procedure extremely well with little to no downtime from their normal activities.
An additional benefit of Nucleofill is that because of the way it works, the product itself is eliminated from the body 15 days following its injection. This means, that although its actions continue, there are no foreign bodies or products sitting in the skin for a prolonged period of time. So if you are looking for something that will make your skin look more hydrated, firmer and glowing, or you are struggling with the eye area or hair loss, then Nucleofill could be just the product for you!
