Is a non-surgical nose job my best option?
By Dr Rachael Syvret
Many people have things about their noses that they don’t like. One of the most common causes for complaint is a bump to the bridge of the nose. Until recently, your only real option to correct this would be to have surgery to the nose. Surgery, for most people can seem quite an extreme option. Not only does it mean time off from work for the operation and recovery time, but the risk of complications is high, and the overall appearance of the nose can change rather dramatically.
For those looking for less dramatic results with less downtime, the rise of the non-surgical nose job was just the answer! Non-surgical nose jobs, or nose augmentation, generally involves placing a small amount of filler just above and just below the bump in the nose. It may seem counterintuitive to add more volume to an area you already don’t like, but doing this makes the contours appear smoother, and as a result makes the overall appearance of the nose look smaller.
The beautiful Ekin-Su from Love Island 2022 is said to have had non-surgical rhinoplasty just days before heading into the villa.
What happens during the appointment?
During the procedure, only very small amounts of filler are injected, however it is one of our longest appointment sessions of all the procedures we offer.
Why is this?
This is because the nose is one of the more complicated areas to treat. There are blood vessels that run very close to the area you are injecting and there is little subcutaneous tissue in the area.
For these reasons, it is important that time is taken to place our needle correctly, aspirate consistently, and to inject a small amount of filler, then check the blood supply closely after each injection we do.
If filler were to enter any of these blood vessels, it could lead to complications such as skin necrosis – where the overlying skin dies, as the blood vessel supplying it becomes blocked with filler, it can cause filler blindness or even stroke.
These risks, although severe, are luckily still fairly uncommon. However, it is important to know the full impact of potential complications before you go ahead with any procedure, and ensure any such treatments are carried out by medical practitioners only.
