If there is one thing that we pride ourselves on at Underlining Beauty; it is honesty. Never will we encourage you to have anything done that we feel wouldn’t enhance your natural beauty. We are all medical professionals and therefore, dishonesty not only goes against everything we stand for as people, it also goes everything we stand for in our professions.

The aesthetic world is a rapidly growing one and in my opinion, there are far too many practitioners out there that are happy to take people’s money, rather than giving them an honest assessment. How very short sighted! People should feel confident that they can go to their aesthetic practitioner and be given honest, constructive and objective feedback about what treatment would enhance, and what treatments wouldn’t. It is this trust that will keep patients coming back for many years.

So, on the subject of honesty; let’s do an honest review of nasolabial line filler:

  1. Does it hurt?

Surprisingly the nasolabials are one of the least painful areas to inject. Many clinics out there won’t even use numbing cream due to this. At Underlining Beauty, we do use numbing cream to increase our patients comfort levels wherever possible, and most patients tolerate it absolutely fine.

2. Is it dangerous?

With all injections of filler there is risk. One of the biggest risks with dermal filler is the risk of necrosis. This is where some of the injected filler enters the blood vessels of the skin. If this was to happen, the skin that this blood vessel is supplying could die.

There are various things that can be done to avoid this from happening. The first is to be aware of the patient’s anatomy and where the blood vessels lie, to try and avoid them. The second thing is aspiration; this is where we draw back the syringe once in the skin before injecting, to see if we get a flashback of blood (that would suggest we were in the vessel.) The third and final thing is to know the early signs and reverse it. Because filler is made from hyaluronic acid, it can be broken down by the enzyme hyaluronidase. If filler was injected into the blood vessel, the practitioner should be able to recognise the early sign of the vessel becoming blocked, and inject hyaluronidase to dissolve the filler allowing the blood flow to be restored to the skin. It is for these reasons that it is so important to choose your injector wisely!

3. Are the results good?

The degree of effectiveness of the results will depend on the depth of the lines, the volume of filler injected to help lift these lines, and the individual person’s response to filler injection.

Nasolabial filler is a great way to help lift and give a more youthful appearance to the lower third of the face. If you are unsure whether nasolabial filler is the one for you; book a free, no obligation consultation with one of our medical professionals at Underlining Beauty, where you are guaranteed an honest assessment!
