Polynucleotides
By Dr Rachael Syvret
Polynucleotides – the new buzz word in aesthetics. You may have read our previous blogs or seen our social media regarding Nucleofill. Nucleofill is one of the brands of polynucleotides to hit the aesthetic market.
What’s in a name?
Since first making its way onto the aesthetic stage, Polynucleotides have been branded with various different names. Due to this, there is a lot of confusion about what different treatments are and whether they are the same or different to other brand names. It is for this reason and to stop further confusion, that we will from now on refer to it instead of the branded name, but the generic name; polynucleotides.
So what are these “polynucleotides” that everyone is talking about?
They are cell signalling molecules that work by telling target cells in the skin to increase their cell turnover and to produce more collagen and elastin. As a result:
- The skin is more firm and glowing
- Dark circles and bags around the eyes are reduced
- Fine lines and crepey skin is refreshed and rejuvenated
Are polynucleotides like dermal filler?
Because polynucleotides are cell signally molecules, the product itself only stays in the skin for 2-3 weeks. After this time, it then leaves the body and allow the cells to do their job. This is one of the many reasons why polynucleotides are quite different to dermal fillers. It is this difference that means polynucleotides have their place in the aesthetic treatment menu “next” to dermal fillers rather than replacing them.
